It rained very heavyly yesterday leaving about 300 l/m2 in places like Platja d’Aro. The force of the water made the rivers grow and there were important floods. Two people died when their cars were suddenly taken by the water crossing a “rambla”. Shops and basements were underneath of meters of water.
Today the rained stoped for a while during the morning, but in the afternoon it took up again, not with so much intensity, but constantly as you can see from the meteosat animation above. It will still rain until tomorrow afternoon.

2Hi Esther
Any more news of the rain? Although I am from Oxford England, I have relatives in Castell d’Aro and I am worried about the flooding? Any other sites covering this?

3Hi Gary,
Sorry to answer so late, I just saw your post.
As far as I know from the news, cars that were parked on the way of the water were carried all the way down to the beach. The village was isolated that evening because the main roads were all cut by rapid streams.
Next day, the news showed a supermarket which had been completely barried by mud. Many neighbours had a tough time cleaning afterwards as basements and bottom floors were completely covered by the water.
Now everything is back to normal and there were no casualties at the village, except for a couple of unconscious foreigners, french I think, wih 4×4, who not taking heed of police warnings, tried crossing the rapid streams and got carried away by the force of the water.
I hope your relatives are fine now and didn’t have much problems. Did you hear from them already?
